Magnum was played by a young, handsome actor by the name of Tom Seleck.  

Thomas Sullivan Magnum lives and resides in the ‘guest house’ of a posh, 200-acre (0.81 km²) beachfront estate, known as Robin’s Nest, in Hawaiʻi, at the invitation of its owner, Robin Masters, the celebrated-but-never-seen author of several dozen lurid novels. Ostensibly this is quid pro quo for Magnum’s services based upon Magnum’s claimed expertise in security; the pilot suggests Magnum also did Masters a favor of some kind.

 In this Ep, Magnum has left the comforts of the estate and has taken a job at a local hotel on the Honolulu strip. A cat burglar is stealing jewels and a hooker always seems to be in the wrong  place at the wrong time.  Damn good stuff.

Originally created as a parody of Ultraman, Kinnikuman was a clumsy goof of a superhero whose services were only called upon to battle monsters if no other superheroes were around.

The wildly popular Kinkeshi figurines came to the United States in the mid-1980s under the brand name M.U.S.C.L.E., which stands for “Millions of Unusual Small Creatures Lurking Everywhere”. For this release, Kinnikuman was renamed “Muscle Man”, leader of the heroic M.U.S.C.L.E. characters, the “Thug Busters,” and Buffaloman was renamed “Teri-Bull” as the leader of the “Cosmic Crunchers” (although in a M.U.S.C.L.E. video game released for the NES, the Japanese names of the other major characters were used).

The story involves Kinnikuman (his real name is Suguru Kinniku), a clumsy fool of a superhero, finding out he is the missing prince of the planet Kinniku, known for turning out the greatest superheroes in the universe. Being a clumsy fool, however, he must prove himself worthy of the throne. To do so, he enters into wrestling competitions and battles evil Chojin, ultimately culminating in a tournament between Kinnikuman and five pretenders to the throne (Kinnikuman Big Body, Soldier, Zebra, Mariposa, and Super Phoenix). Many of Kinnikuman’s allies begin as villains (Ramenman, Buffalo Man, Ashuraman, Warsman), and extremely arrogant heroes (Terryman, Robin Mask, Rikishiman).

They came in random packs and you never knew what you were going to get. 

They were rad toys and I wish I could remeber what I did with them all. 

Long Live M.U.S.C.L.E

I don’t know a lot about Black Coral, but last week I read a story about some scientist that found the largest forest of Black Coral ever discovered by man. It was in a narrow straight of water called the Messina, located somewhere off the Italy coast. The other interesting factor to this great discovery, is that it is in the same body of water that 2 sea monsters have been know to live in for the last few centuries. “Scylla and Charybdis.”  This mythical passage of water has been documented many times in stories such as “Homer’s Odyssey”, as well as having become a favorite tale for sailors and travelers in the area. But now with the dawn of the high-tech generation, scientist have begun using robotic sub’s to go to inhumanly depths of 180 to 380 feet to comb the bottom of this dark, cold, rocky coastline. Why write about this?????

The real story is mine, it takes place in Hawaii in 94, I was hanging at the dive shop with my best buddy Tom Callahan. He was a dive instructor and was working early that morning in the shop by the beach. I had been on a super early surf session, so on my way back to our hole in the wall house, I stopped by to say what’s up and have a coffee. Tom was waiting for his lesson to show up, so we stood their talking to this short, fat, blond guy Doug, who pretty much spent most of his day filling air tanks for divers and cleaning up the shop. A familiar truck pulled up and we all looked over to see John Miller, his Dad Matt and their dive crew jumping out of the back of the pickup. John spend his days growing up diving for coral with his Dad, it had made his family rich, but you’d never know it by the way they dressed or acted.

In order to find Black Coral you need to go below 150 feet (very dangerous), for these guys it was a daily route,  just another day out at sea. They were tough as shit and didn’t seem to fear anything, yet the rest of the crew paled in comparison and were strictly hired deckhands. The crew grabbed their tanks and after talking to them for a couple of minutes they were gone, off to the dock to launch the boat. John had a bit of a bad boy rep in town; he drank hard and loved chasing young women, his father was the same way, only he kept his image a little more refined. There were no wives or mothers around and John had raised his son John Jr himself, with the help of a nanny the same way his father had done with him. The thing that I wasn’t aware of or didn’t notice about him when I partied with John and his gang was that he was a heroin user. It was something known among the diving community but it wasn’t really something anyone ever mentioned.

The hot summer day went on and later I found myself biking down to the harbor dock just off the main strip, off Front Street. The tour boats were coming in, the sky was soft and the hard banging sun was dropping in the distance. I stopped my Maui cruiser and chained it up to the electrical poll. I walked down the dry, dusty path to the water and watched as tourist offloaded onto the old, faded, red wooden wharf. A boat just outside the reef on the furthest point of the harbor looked like the “Susan Maria” John and Mat’s boat. It was silhouetted in the distance but I could see the tattered pirate flag that was blew off the top deck. It seemed to be chugging along faster then most boast that entered the harbor and you could feel something in the air. I worked my way past all the people and stood at their empty docking port, I watched as they kept their pace speeding towards the wharf. I could see a few people standing around the boat; none of them looked like John or Mat. There was a sense of panic to it all, and when I heard an ambulance arriving in the parking lot behind me I new something was up. Shortly another one arrived and the men were directed to where I was standing. I asked them what was wrong but the two men in uniforms ignored me after theymotioned for me to stand back. The Boat finally pulled up and two men lay lifeless on the bow of the boat. It was crazy, my heart jumped and I felt creepied out to see the purple faces of John and his father Matt both on the ground dead.  The young fit Hawaii Ambulance technicians jumped on the boat after it was safely tied up and the crew spread out and got off to give the paramedics room to work. I was pushed further out of the way as the rest of the crew jumped off. People were freaking out and words were flying all over. John and Matt showed no signs of life despite the effort’s of the paramedics. Two guys worked on John and two others worked on Matt. Cop’s showed up and started to get the stories from the crew, they slowly interviewed everyone around the dock and gathered statements. It was a small town and everyone here knew each other. They carried both the bodies to the ambulances waiting a few feet away and whisked the men to the closes hospital, sirens blazing and still trying to revive them. It was like a dream everything was slow and people who knew the men had started to show up and breakdown. It was strange that I was there and people kept asking me the story over and over. It wasn’t till the evening in the dive bar “Mixy” that we all got the fact’s from the devastated crew who were now drinking the night away trying to not see what they saw every time they closed their eyes. Marty another friend of mine who worked for John and Matt as a deck hand spilled the truth, he had been on the other side of the island getting boat supplies that morning and wasn’t on board with them, but the rest of the guys told him what had really happened and he repeated it to me in a hush hush sort of way, as we smoked a joint behind the pub. He told me how John had shot up before his dive, which wasn’t anything new for him but for some reason it caught up with him and he had od’d underwater at about 110 feet. His father Matt had pulled him up to the surface and while the boy’s were trying to relive John, Matt went in to cardiac arrest and died on the spot. He wept while telling the story and seems general hurt by the whole ordeal, but then he looked at me and said “Now I have no job, what am I going to do.”

I guess life goes on…

In Brooklyn NY they have a Super Hero Supply Store. Yeah a place for Super Hero’s to pick up anything from a  Matter Transformer  to simply things like Capes, Lab Supplies, Antimatter, Lairs, Mind Control Spray and other crazy items that Super Hero’s need to save the world.

I only wish this place existed when I was fighting crime back in the 80′s.. Back then we made all our own products….  Though with the recent insurgence of Super Hero’s all over the country, a store like this is not only practical but also in demand. My only worry is that the super villains might find it and get their hands on some of these amazing products…..

It focuses on the Vancouver skate scene.. It should be a fun show and we hope to expose Vancouver the mecca of skating to the world again…. like it hasn’t already been done….. Yeah but it can always be updated… The show will start off being broad casted over the net and  then we  hope to sell it to a Network or corporate giant who will kill it and make it some generic fake piece of shit…. Kidding we hope to keep it core and real and hopefully give some of the local skate shops and local riders some exposure and tell the world that their is a lot more to Vancouver then just what they read in the mag’s… Each ep will feature a different skate parks as well as featuring different local riders of the park… Look for it soon, we hope to have the 1st EP out in June….

Now the 2nd project Pat and I are filming  is a show called Pat and Daveo. This show is a 8 min dramatic comedy series that is broken into 9 web episodes for the first season. The story line follows the adventures of two almost middle aged skaters, Dave who has a wife and kids but still tries to live like he’s 20 something and his best bud of 11 years Pat who is single and spends most of his time rocking his guitar and making home made beer while getting stoned…

 My new thing now is the two pound burger that the 2 Parrots serves in downtown Vancouver. At the Two Parrots you get one hell of a monster burger. This mountain of meat makes my knees quake and the fluffy bun scares me. OOOHHH cheese, cheese I love the cheese…. They say that if you eat it all you get it for free, but I ain’t seen that before, pardon the “ain’t” but I felt like talking like a hick, just add an accent when you read it.

Anyway I really would like to tackle this burger but I know my wife will never go for it, she wants me to live and death by burger isn’t covered under our medical insurance policy. Or is it, I must look into that.

I miss the crisp refreshing crack of the hard cold wet aluminum. I miss the feeling of the tiny bubbles tickling my upper lip as I breath in and took that first big sip. The thought of the habitual comfort I got from walking into work and starting my shift with a small bottle of DC, it almost makes me weep. It is a sad day and it is starting to piss me off, why, oh why must I quit my DC……. What will I drink now what is satisfy that thirst? Let’s be honest, nothing I do will give me that satisfaction. It is done for the world will never be the same… But on a side note, maybe I’ll get past it, maybe there will be a time when it means nothing to me.  Nahh, I will miss it and I will get over it but I will never forget it…..

China Creek is the oldest skate park in Vancouver and one of my fav’s.  It smells like piss, shit and barf and often there is a bum sleeping on the benches. In the morning there is rarely  anyone around and you can spend a few hours alone skating the cracked and beaten concrete. An eye sore that was once in jeopardy of being ripped down.  It now boast a sort of historical statues and is the first retried skate park in Vancouver,  due largely in part to the hard working people of the Vancouver Skateboard Coalition.( good job boys and girls).

Memories of a time before cell phones and other distractions, skating the park in the early morning gives me a sense of calm in this ever growing violent skate community.

The Jaks still hold there annual skateboard comp at China Creek in Sept and it is always fun watching the oldies drink too much, skate and talk about old times.
